Before your ultrasound scan
Our friendly team will contact you to arrange an appointment for your ultrasound scan. At this stage, we will answer any questions you may have about your upcoming appointment and will clearly set out the details and cost of your recommended procedure. We will provide you with this information via email or post depending on your preference. We will also arrange an appointment that is convenient for you.
During your ultrasound scan
Ultrasound scans are typically painless and you should be able to resume normal activity immediately after this procedure. However, some patients may experience mild discomfort or pressure as the ultrasound transducer is moved over the skin. With therapeutic ultrasound scans, there may be some discomfort, for example, if an injection is recommended. We will discuss this with you before the procedure and we will utilize options available to minimize any discomfort such as the use of local anesthetic, if appropriate.
You will need to remove or lift up any clothing around the area that needs to be scanned. We will use clinical gowns and/or drapes to preserve your dignity. Please note our team has both male and female consultant radiologists and you can request an appointment with a doctor of your choice.
The radiologist/sonographer performing your scan will give you a verbal summary during this appointment. They will subsequently analyse the scan findings and provide a full written report within two working days of your ultrasound scan.
After your ultrasound scan
The full written report will be made available to you and your referring healthcare practitioner within two working days of your ultrasound scan.
